How Does Express Parking Christchurch Airport Work?

Upon Arrival

Upon arrival at the Express Car Park, the licence plate reader will detect your licence plate number, automatically raising the barrier arm for entry and exit from the car park - no ticket is required.

If the barrier arm doesn’t open, simply tap or insert the credit or debit card you used for your booking. Should this not resolve the issue, press the HELP button for assistance. Proceed to levels 1 - 3 and park in any available bay.

If you didn't pre-book your spot, you can tap or insert your credit card at the entry gate.

Upon Return

To exit, simply drive up to the barrier. If you pre-booked your parking spot and stayed within your planned duration, the barrier will automatically lift for you. If you exceed your parking time, you can settle the payment using a credit card at the gate. For those who didn’t pre-book, just scan the credit card you used to enter at the exit to leave.

If you need to pay at a payment machine before returning to your car, you can find them at the locations below. All payment machines take credit cards, Eftpos and PayWave.

  • In front of the Express Park building
  • At the Short Stay car park exit
  • At the Long Stay car park entry
  • At the Orchard Road car park exit
  • At the Park and Ride exit
  • Outside Door 7
  • Outside Door 5 (in the covered walkway)

Reviews of Express Parking Christchurch Airport

The Express Car Park at Christchurch Airport receives mixed reviews. Many customers appreciate its convenience and location, with covered parking just outside the terminal, making it ideal for quick drop-offs and pickups. Reviewers also value the safety of their vehicles and the accessible features for those with disabilities, noting that the parking process is generally swift, especially with online bookings.

However, there are significant criticisms. Many find the rates to be overpriced, particularly for longer stays or short visits. Users report issues with the size of the parking bays, leading to potential vehicle damage, and some experience long queues at payment machines, suggesting the need for a more efficient process. Additionally, a lack of clear signage can complicate navigation for first-time visitors, and traffic congestion in the drop-off zone has been noted as a drawback. Overall, while the car park offers notable advantages, there are key areas for improvement.
